Common Signs of AC Repair Needs to Watch for

It’s completely normal to have an AC problem here or there that needs repair. The question is, how do you know the early signs of air conditioner repair needs? You can keep reading to learn more about some common signs to watch for that can indicate your air conditioner is struggling with operation.

Then give our team a call to schedule your appointment for AC repair in Charleston, SC. No matter what signs you are experiencing, our team can help by getting down to the root cause of the problem and fixing it so your air conditioner can operate at its best again.

Unusual Noises

Sometimes unusual AC sounds are loud, and other times they are quiet. It really just depends on what the problem is. The bottom line is that any unusual sounds should be treated as a red flag. You should give our team a call if your air conditioner begins to make sounds that it doesn’t usually make.

Examples include shrieking, banging, or scraping. But there are also quieter sounds that could be alarming, like rattling, tapping, or clicking. For example, a persistent clicking sound can mean the air conditioner is struggling to turn on for a cooling cycle.

Bad Odors

The air coming out of your air conditioner should never have an odor, good or bad. Smelling anything coming from the air vents can mean that something is going wrong inside of your air conditioner. If the air smells damp and musty, you may have mold growth somewhere in the system.

If there’s a burning smell, something inside the unit may be overheating, or there may be an electrical problem. If there is a chemical or mildly sweet odor, your air conditioner may have a refrigerant leak that needs to be addressed. No matter what smell your air conditioner is outputting, it needs to be checked out by one of our professional technicians.

Operational Changes

You can also pay close attention to how your air conditioner is operating. Normal cooling cycles last for around 10 minutes or so before the unit turns off and rests until the next cycle begins. If your air conditioner is turning on and staying on without ever cycling back off, or turning on and off frequently without ever staying on long enough to actually cool your home, something is wrong.

Either your air conditioner is struggling to keep up with cooling your home, a safety mechanism is triggering, or your thermostat is miscalibrated and not communicating correctly with the unit. You don’t have to worry about identifying what the actual problem is.

You just need to know what is abnormal so you can give us a call and we can check it out. Allowing your air conditioner to continue to operate in an unusual manner can add strain to the system and cost you on your monthly energy bills.
